Custom Projects

Purpose-built systems for unique properties, infrastructure, and operating goals

Some projects need more than catalog hardware. GridRabbit designs and deploys custom solutions where site conditions, energy goals, and operational workflows require specialized engineering.

  • Custom battery storage systems
  • Large-site integration projects
  • Brookfield project experience
  • Boeing project experience

Featured Custom Work

The first featured custom project highlights GridRabbit energy and metering integrations across enterprise and utility environments.

Brookfield and Boeing

To collect live meter data from Boeing sites, GridRabbit interfaces with site electrical meters using pulse converters, Modbus, or DNP3, and can meet site requirements either with an on-site GridRabbit GW or by installing GridRabbit GW software on an on-site virtual server; at Brookfield, GridRabbit integrates with SCADA servers to collect live energy-generation data from hydro, solar, and wind facilities, then formats and sends that data downstream for further handling.

  • Boeing: live meter data collection through pulse converter, Modbus, and DNP3 options
  • Flexible deployment with on-site GridRabbit GW hardware or on-site virtual GW software
  • Brookfield: SCADA integration for hydro, solar, and wind generation telemetry pipelines

GridRabbit Battery Storage

This custom deployment was designed to reduce peak demand charges by shifting when energy is consumed and delivered at the property.

Peak-demand reduction with daily charge and discharge control

The customer had a peak load of 1.2 MW, which made utility peak-demand charges unreasonably high.

The site already had a GridRabbit Smart Room deployment and 26 GridRabbit EV chargers, so the next challenge was reducing peak energy load even further. GridRabbit, the hotel, and the utility agreed to develop a battery storage solution that could consistently lower peak demand on a daily basis.

GridRabbit selected Toshiba SCiB Lithium Titanate Oxide (LTO) modules for this project because they are safe, reliable, high power, and built for very long service life. These batteries are charged at night and discharged during daytime peak periods.

SCiB batteries can be used daily for up to 40 years before reaching about 20% degradation. They are heavier than typical EV-focused batteries, which is why they are not commonly used in cars, but they are a strong fit for fixed building infrastructure projects.

  • Designed to lower recurring peak-demand costs
  • Integrated with existing GridRabbit smart room and EV charger deployment
  • Includes a standalone touchscreen kiosk that supports complete offline control
